Thiruvananthapuram, May 22 (NationPress) While Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 103 redeveloped Amrit Stations online from Bikaner, Rajasthan, on Thursday, two of these stations are located in Kerala as well.
At the Chiryankil railway station, approximately 30 km from the state capital, Union Minister of State for Tourism Suresh Gopi took the lead in the inauguration. Meanwhile, in the Kozhikode district's Badagara, Union Minister of State for Fisheries George Kurien was the chief guest.
Gopi remarked that with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the helm, there should be no doubts regarding infrastructure development, emphasizing that it transcends political affiliations.
"Our PM Modi is solely focused on development, and Kerala can anticipate a slew of upcoming projects," stated MoS Gopi.
On the same day, PM Modi also laid the foundation for and inaugurated various development initiatives valued at over Rs 26,000 crore.
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw noted that out of more than 1,300 railway stations earmarked for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the inaugural batch of 103 Amrit Stations was launched on Thursday.
The next phase will see another 100 Amrit Stations ready to serve in the upcoming eight months, with an overall goal of completing the redevelopment of around 500 stations by 2027.
Kerala can anticipate similar renovations for several railway stations in future phases.
The state's total railway network spans 1,054 kilometers and is managed by three of the six divisions of the Southern Railway.
The Tirur railway station, established in 1861, holds the title of the state's oldest railway station, while Kollam district boasts the highest number of operational stations at 25.
Meanwhile, the Shornur railway station is recognized as the largest in Kerala.
