Kerala: Opposition Leader Expresses Discontent as CM Opens Five-Star Hotel During National Mourning

Kochi, Dec 28 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, V. D. Satheesan, criticized Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday for inaugurating a five-star hotel at Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL).

“A seven-day mourning period is currently observed following the demise of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. Vijayan participated in the inauguration while the final rites of the ten-year PM were being conducted in Delhi,” stated Satheesan.

CIAL is the first airport developed under the PPP model, with the Chief Minister of Kerala serving as its Chairman. The hotel has been constructed by CIAL and is now managed by the Indian Hotels Company Limited.

“It is inappropriate for someone like Vijayan to proceed with this event when the nation is in mourning; it shows a lack of respect for the deceased. We had urged CIAL to notify Vijayan about the need to postpone this function, but our request was ignored, and this action deserves condemnation,” Satheesan added.

During the hotel inauguration, Vijayan stressed the necessity of continual innovation for both individuals and institutions to flourish in an ever-evolving environment.

He pointed out that adapting to changing trends in service delivery is crucial, especially in an age dominated by new media.

“In today’s world, merely offering the best services is insufficient; new media significantly influences daily life. It’s vital for people to be persuaded of the advantages,” noted Vijayan.

Vijayan also commended CIAL for its effective marketing strategies and its ability to communicate the benefits of its initiatives.

CIAL stands as the second airport in India to establish a hotel under this business model, strategically utilizing its land for such ventures.

Alongside Vijayan, State Industries Minister P. Rajeeve and other prominent officials from the state government were present at the ceremony.
