Kochi, April 19 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition (LoP), V.D. Satheesan announced on Saturday that the entirety of the Opposition in Kerala will abstain from participating in the fourth anniversary festivities of the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government.

LoP Satheesan stated that CM Vijayan possesses no moral authority to celebrate while Kerala is enduring one of its most severe financial crises.

“What is there to celebrate when development and growth have stagnated to an irretrievable extent? There is a lack of governance in Kerala, with pervasive corruption in all sectors and systemic inefficiencies that have left the state grappling with its worst financial downturn,” said Satheesan.

“All the Welfare Boards are in a state of turmoil. The Asha workers and Anganwadi workers are facing dire challenges. The health sector is struggling as hospitals are devoid of essential medicines. The agriculture sector is suffering due to declining cash crop prices. The much-touted benchmark price of rubber at Rs 250 per kg, which was promised in the Left manifesto of 2021, has been disregarded,” Satheesan asserted.

“The drug mafia has seized control of the state, and there have been no serious efforts to dismantle the drug supply chain that now runs rampant.

“All that occurs is that cases are filed against drug consumers, and as soon as they are released, they revert to drug use,” Satheesan remarked.

“Therefore, we will be boycotting all functions organized by the Vijayan government,” the LoP declared.

Notably, CM Vijayan himself will spearhead the month-long festivities, commencing at Kasargod on Monday and concluding on May 30.

During his visits to all district headquarters as part of the fourth anniversary events, he will preside over district-level meetings featuring a carefully selected group of 500 individuals from each district.

The attendees will comprise beneficiaries of various state government schemes, trade union representatives, youth and student organization representatives, notable figures in arts, sports, and culture, professionals, industry leaders, NRKs, and community leaders.

The chief minister is slated to participate in the meeting in Palakkad on May 5, Alappuzha on May 6, Ernakulam on May 7, Kannur on May 9, Malappuram on May 12, Kozhikode on May 13, Thrissur on May 14, Kollam on May 22, and Thiruvananthapuram on May 23.

As part of the celebrations, regional-level assessment meetings will also be chaired by CM Vijayan along with top officials.
