Palakkad, Jan 28 (NationPress) A wave of public anger has surged against the Kerala Police in the wake of the heinous murders of 54-year-old Sudhakaran and his 76-year-old mother, Lekshmi, allegedly committed by their 58-year-old neighbor, Chenthamara.
Despite previous complaints regarding the suspect’s conduct, the police’s lack of action is being held accountable for this tragic incident.
A large-scale manhunt, involving a force of 150 officers from the Kerala Police, is currently in progress in the Nenmara region to capture Chenthamara, who has a criminal history that includes serving time for the 2019 murder of Sajitha, Sudhakaran’s spouse.
Having been released on bail just two months prior, Chenthamara is now implicated in this latest horrific act, coinciding with the commencement of the trial for Sajitha’s murder.
The victims' daughters -- Akhila and Athulya -- voiced their distress, criticizing the local police for disregarding their documented complaints about the accused.
“We have lost all trust in the Kerala Police. We warned them about this man, who first killed our mother and now our father,” lamented Akhila, a second-year college student. “How was he allowed near us when the bail conditions were so explicit? We are now left with nothing but each other.”
The police have located the weapon believed to have been utilized in the murders and are conducting an extensive search in Nenmara, employing drones and inspecting abandoned areas and water bodies. A bottle of poison found at Chenthamara’s residence has led to speculation regarding his potential suicide.
Clashes occurred at the Nenmara Police Station after Youth Congress members protested against the perceived negligence of law enforcement.
In light of these events, the State Police Chief has demanded an immediate report from the Palakkad Superintendent of Police (SP) to investigate potential oversights that allowed Chenthamara to roam freely while on bail.
Chenthamara and Sudhakaran were neighbors, and locals assert that the former blamed Sajitha for his estrangement from his wife and daughter. Since his release from prison, Chenthamara had been living in solitude.
Only two months ago, Sudhakaran, his mother, and several local residents had submitted a written warning to the police, cautioning that Chenthamara posed a renewed threat. Their alerts, however, seem to have been ignored, leading to this heartbreaking double homicide.
