Thrissur, Aug 11 (NationPress) Sub-Inspector of Police (SI) Aparna Lavakumar has garnered admiration once more. Her swift response and an act of profound compassion on one of Thrissur city’s most trafficked roads has been widely commended following the viral spread of a video showing the incident.
She made way for an ambulance transporting a critically ill individual. The footage depicts a lengthy traffic congestion with vehicles immobilized, as an ambulance approached from behind with its siren blaring.
Recognizing the urgency, SI Aparna exited her vehicle, sprinted ahead through the gridlock, and directed the vehicles to clear a path for the ambulance.
In a display of selflessness, she ensured that the patient received urgent medical attention without any delays.
Aparna’s empathy and prompt actions during challenging situations have been evident previously. In one instance, she cut her hair to donate to cancer patients after obtaining permission from then DIG Vijayakumar.
On another occasion, when the relatives of a woman who was a victim of family violence could not afford to release her body, Aparna gave them her own gold bangle.
They pledged the bangle to gather the necessary funds. She recalls wanting to assist them with cash, but she had none at that moment.
Commenting on her actions, Aparna asserts that these are merely “small acts of kindness that anyone would perform.”
At the time she donated her gold bangle, she was serving as a constable at Ollur Police Station.
Her latest act at Ashwini Junction once again underscores the crucial role that police officers can play in life-or-death scenarios—not just in enforcing laws but also in protecting humanity.
Observers believe that Aparna’s kind gesture aids in restoring the tarnished image of the Kerala Police, especially after the Kerala High Court previously supported an 8-year-old girl whose father was wrongly accused of theft by a lady police officer.
This incident occurred a few years ago when Jayachandran and his eight-year-old daughter visited Moonumukku to watch a massive cargo move to the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Thumba.
A lady police officer, tasked with traffic management, accused them of stealing her mobile phone, which was left in the police vehicle.
A video that circulated online depicted the officer and her colleague harassing the father and his daughter, even frisking him.
Amid the distress, the child broke down.
When a bystander called the officer’s number, the phone was found in the police vehicle, after which the police team departed without offering an apology.
Ultimately, the High Court intervened, delivering justice to the young girl.
