Khagaria Police nab criminal in Operation Langda encounter; accused snatched SI's pistol
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Khagaria Police apprehended a wanted criminal following a late-night encounter on the Sakrohar-Kurvan road under the Beldaur police station jurisdiction on 15 July, during an operation conducted as part of the ongoing 'Operation Langda' crackdown in Bihar. The accused, identified as Akhilesh Sada, was shot in the leg after allegedly snatching a Sub-Inspector's service pistol and attempting to flee.
How the Encounter Unfolded
According to Khagaria Superintendent of Police Bhanu Pratap Singh, the Beldaur police team was conducting an intensive vehicle-checking drive when officers intercepted three men travelling on a motorcycle. As personnel began questioning and searching the trio, the suspects allegedly resisted and scuffled with the officers.
During the altercation, one of the accused snatched the service pistol of a Sub-Inspector, and all three then attempted to flee under the cover of darkness. Police immediately launched a pursuit.
Accused Shot in Leg After Confronting Officers
During the chase, Akhilesh Sada allegedly turned and confronted the pursuing officers again. According to police, he attempted to attack personnel after being cornered. Acting in self-defence, officers first fired a warning shot into the air before opening fire, striking Sada in the leg. He fell to the ground and was taken into custody immediately.
Sada was subsequently admitted to Sadar Hospital, Khagaria, where he is undergoing treatment. An FIR has been registered against him at the Beldaur police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Two Accused Still at Large
The two other suspects who were stopped alongside Sada managed to escape during the commotion. Police have since launched raids at multiple locations to trace and arrest the absconding individuals. SP Bhanu Pratap Singh confirmed that further investigation is underway and efforts to apprehend the remaining accused are continuing.
Pattern of Encounter Actions in Bihar
This incident is not isolated. As recently as 13 May, the prime accused in the Rajasan double murder case in Bihar's Vaishali district was injured in a police encounter after allegedly opening fire on a team attempting to arrest him. The Bihar Police's 'Operation Langda' — a sustained drive targeting criminals with prior records — has been linked to multiple such enforcement actions across the state, reflecting a broader intensification of anti-crime operations.
With two suspects still at large and investigation ongoing, the Khagaria Police's next steps will be closely watched as Operation Langda continues its sweep across the region.
