New Delhi, July 20 (NationPress) BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal expressed his support for Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s recent statements advocating for prioritizing national interest over party politics. He emphasized that such an attitude is crucial for democratic unity and effective governance.
“The Bharatiya Janata Party has always upheld that the individual ranks below the party, and the party ranks below the nation; the nation must always be our foremost concern. Shashi Tharoor has reflected a similar sentiment, and I commend his remarks,” Khandelwal stated while talking to IANS.
He further highlighted the necessity for a political consensus regarding national security and interests. “In matters of national importance, political differences should not exist. The nation comes first, politics follows,” he affirmed.
Khandelwal’s comments were prompted by Tharoor’s recent assertion, in which the senior Congress leader from Thiruvananthapuram underscored the need for cooperation across party lines concerning national security and interests.
“Politics, sadly, is about competition in any democracy. Consequently, when individuals like me acknowledge our parties and the values that bind us, we also recognize the need to collaborate with other parties for national security,” Tharoor stated.
The Congress MP has recently faced internal criticism for statements perceived as overly conciliatory toward the ruling party.
Regarding the forthcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, Khandelwal spoke about the legislative agenda: “Numerous legislative tasks await us during the Monsoon Session, including the passage of approximately eight bills, alongside various other responsibilities. I anticipate that the opposition will adopt a constructive stance during this session,” he mentioned.
“The House exists for discussions, and substantive debates should occur on every matter. If the opposition approaches with a positive mindset, I believe we can collectively address the aspirations of the people through Parliament,” he added.
The Monsoon Session is scheduled to commence on July 21 and will continue until August 21, with a total of 21 sittings planned.
