New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday accused a “deep conspiracy” for the listing of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the Enforcement Directorate’s charge sheet related to the National Herald case.

He asserted that this move was politically driven and part of a larger campaign of vendetta orchestrated by the BJP-led government.

“You must have observed how, within the framework of a significant conspiracy, the names of CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi have been included in the ED chargesheet concerning the National Herald case. Regardless of who is implicated, we remain unafraid,” Kharge stated during a meeting with AICC general secretaries, state in-charges, and leaders of party frontal organizations.

Kharge emphasized that just prior to this incident, properties associated with the National Herald in Delhi, Lucknow, and Mumbai were seized by the ED.

“There is no doubt that this is driven by political retribution. ‘Young Indian’ operates as a not-for-profit entity, meaning neither shares nor profits of AJL (Associated Journals Ltd) can be sold or transferred. Yet, the BJP persists in misleading the public with falsehoods. It is our responsibility to convey the truth to the people,” he noted.

He also raised concerns about the timing of the ED’s actions. “It cannot be a mere coincidence that the AICC session took place in Ahmedabad, and shortly afterward, such a significant move was executed by the ED. I want to remind you that during our Congress session in Raipur under my leadership, Modi ji similarly unleashed ED and CBI raids on our leaders there, attempting to disrupt the event. However, we successfully held it.”

Reflecting on past attempts to undermine the Congress, Kharge stated, “Before the last Lok Sabha elections, our accounts were frozen. Nevertheless, the public increased our strength in Parliament. The struggle is far from over.”

He also highlighted the party’s firm opposition to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill.

“The Congress united the entire opposition against the government’s Waqf Amendment Bill. This issue is now before the Supreme Court, which has recognized the concerns raised by the opposition, particularly regarding the contentious ‘Waqf by user’ clause. This clause has been intentionally introduced to create confusion regarding Waqf properties.”

Expressing confidence in the party’s legal and political stance, Kharge asserted, “We will prevail in this battle too. Despite the BJP’s disinformation campaign and efforts to mislead the public, we will continue to unmask their conspiracy and reveal the truth.”

He urged party members to persist in addressing pressing national issues. “We must work in a coordinated and strategic manner. I also remind you to uphold the resolutions passed at the Ahmedabad AICC session and assist in advancing them.”
