Kharge Criticizes Centre as He Commemorates Chaudhary Charan Singh

New Delhi, Dec 23 (NationPress) Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge lambasted the Centre on Monday, labeling it as stubborn and anti-farmer, expressing hope that the government would cease its injustice towards farmers and fulfill its promises.
This statement was made during the tribute to former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, whose birth anniversary is commemorated as Farmers' Day.
In a post on X, Kharge stated, "The farmer is India, the pride of the nation. Heartfelt wishes to all farmer sisters and brothers, along with farm laborers on Farmers' Day. I extend my respectful tributes to former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh ji on his birth anniversary, who championed the cause of farmers across the country."
In his critique of the Modi-led government, the Congress President accused it of being inflexible and harmful to farmers. "It is anticipated that the Modi government will refrain from further injustice towards our farmers through its rigid and anti-farmer policies and will act on its previous commitments," he added.
Despite Kharge's criticisms regarding farmers' issues, the Centre asserted on Sunday that it acknowledges the crucial role of farmers, having launched a series of initiatives aimed at their social and economic upliftment and promoting sustainable agricultural growth.
These initiatives, such as the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana (PM-KMY), focus on providing financial security, risk mitigation, and long-term social security for farmers, according to a government statement.
The statement emphasized that by addressing both immediate challenges and long-term requirements, these schemes reflect the government's commitment to supporting the backbone of the nation while ensuring a sustainable agricultural future.
Earlier in the day, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and others paid heartfelt tributes to the former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar honored Chaudhary Charan Singh at Kisan Ghat in Delhi, accompanied by Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary -- the RLD chief and grandson of Chaudhary Charan Singh.
After the tributes, the Vice President remarked, "On Kisan Diwas, I salute all farmers in India. The decision made in 2001 to commence Kisan Diwas in honor of this great man, who dedicated his life to the nation's development alongside farmers and rural improvement, was indeed the right one. His ideology and philosophy serve as a model for all of us."
