Kolkata Police have issued strict directives to Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of every police station and intelligence department across the city to upload First Information Reports (FIRs) and all related case data on the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), the national digital crime-tracking platform. The order follows a review meeting convened by Police Commissioner Ajay Nand on Saturday, 19 September 2026, at which compliance gaps were directly questioned.

Commissioner's Meeting and Key Directives

Commissioner Ajay Nand met OCs of every police station and intelligence department to discuss crime suppression measures and specifically directed that FIR numbers and all associated information be updated more comprehensively on CCTNS. A senior officer confirmed the details of the meeting on Sunday, 20 September 2026.

Lalbazar, the Kolkata Police headquarters, has placed special emphasis on the uploading of chargesheet documents, ordering that as many old chargesheets as possible be digitised and submitted to the system without delay.

Compliance Gaps in Eastern Suburbs

Despite these standing instructions, compliance has reportedly been uneven. According to officials, there is a notably low tendency to upload chargesheets at certain police stations in east Kolkata, particularly those falling under the Eastern Suburban Division. The Commissioner questioned OCs and senior officers from those stations about the lapses. Lalbazar has since ordered disciplinary action against any officer found to be negligent in following the CCTNS mandate.

Missing Persons Portal and Cyber Stations

A separate compliance issue flagged at the meeting relates to the missing persons portal. Officials noted that even after a missing person is located, the updated status is often not entered into the portal — a gap that reportedly creates confusion for families and tracking authorities alike. The Commissioner has directed officers to log updates promptly whenever a missing person returns or is found.

Additionally, instructions have been issued to set up cyber police stations in every division of the city, reflecting Lalbazar's push to strengthen digital law-enforcement infrastructure.

POCSO Trials and Property Crime Alerts

Lalbazar has directed that trials under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 be expedited. Slow-moving POCSO cases will now be reviewed by the Trial Monitoring Section of the Intelligence Department to identify and address bottlenecks.

Police stations and the Intelligence Department have also been put on notice regarding a rise in house theft and bike theft cases, with Lalbazar warning officers to treat these as priority concerns requiring active monitoring and response.
