Bengaluru, March 12 (NationPress) The stalemate between the Congress-led administration and the Opposition parties, BJP and JD(S), persisted in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

BJP and JD(S) MLAs surged into the Well of the House immediately after the session commenced, chanting slogans against the government regarding the appointment of Congress workers to the Guarantees Implementation Committee.

Speaker U.T. Khader urged the House, stating, “I ask both the ruling party and the Opposition to find a resolution to the deadlock. Every issue has a resolution, and this one does too.”

Opposition Leader R. Ashoka expressed that he desired a smooth session but insisted on the Karnataka government addressing the prevailing issue.

BJP MLA and General Secretary, V. Sunil Kumar, argued that the government should deduct salaries paid to Congress workers from the compensation given to Tehsildars and other government employees, who are officially assigned to perform the same duties as the party's workers.

Congress MLAs retorted that the BJP and JD(S) were opposing the guarantees.

Speaker Khader subsequently adjourned the House until 1:45 p.m.

In the meantime, Opposition legislators protested in front of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s statue located within the Vidhana Soudha premises.

The MLAs displayed placards with slogans such as "Taxpayers’ money consumed by Congress workers," "Shame on the Congress government for misappropriating public funds in the name of guarantees," and "Only consolation for people, rewards for Congress workers."

BJP state President and MLA, B.Y. Vijayendra, along with Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy and JD(S) Floor Leader C.B. Suresh Babu, participated in the protest.

Addressing the media following the protest, Vijayendra accused the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah-led government of misusing taxpayers’ funds by providing salaries to Congress party workers.

He mentioned that they had raised this issue in the state Assembly on Tuesday. “Thus, we are protesting and will also approach the Governor regarding the matter,” he stated.

Moreover, he claimed that wherever Congress leaders lost elections, their sons were being appointed as presidents of the Guarantee Implementation Committees and were even convening meetings with officials.

“This unconstitutional action is being contested in the Karnataka High Court,” Vijayendra asserted.

“There are deputy commissioners at the district level to execute government programs. Does the Congress party require defeated candidates and their sons to carry out the guarantee schemes? This is the reason for the protest by BJP and JD(S),” he added.
