Kumaraswamy Critiques Congress Centenary: Modern Gandhis Featured Over Mahatma Gandhi

Bengaluru, Dec 26 (NationPress) Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy stated on Thursday that the Congress' 1924 centenary festivities prominently display cutouts of modern Gandhis, despite the event being organized in honor of Mahatma Gandhi.

While addressing the media in Bengaluru, Kumaraswamy remarked, “They are commemorating the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi assuming the presidency at the Belagavi session in a grand manner. Additionally, the government has scheduled a year-long program dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi Ji. The centenary celebration is supposedly in his name. However, upon examining the cutouts displayed in Belagavi, it is evident that none represent Mahatma Gandhi. All the cutouts are of modern Gandhis. I have yet to see any cutouts of Mahatma Gandhi.”

“They have published extensive advertisements in newspapers showcasing enormous cutouts of modern Gandhis. The state is being governed in a chaotic manner, and these individuals are proceeding with a program to honor Mahatma Gandhi. I will address this matter further later,” he added.

Former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai, while speaking to reporters in Haveri, pointed out a stark contrast between Mahatma Gandhi's Congress and the current version, labeling today’s Congress as inauthentic.

He claimed that present Congress members operate against the principles upheld by Gandhi.

Bommai accused the state government of poor governance, deteriorating law and order, and rampant corruption within various departments and corporations, particularly concerning funds allocated for marginalized communities.

He raised concerns about the ethicality of utilizing public funds for the Congress session, questioning, “Under what legal framework can public funds be allocated for political gatherings?”

Furthermore, he criticized Congress for hosting the session in Mahatma Gandhi's name while pursuing misleading agendas.

In response to the incident where eggs were thrown at MLA N. Munirathna Naidu, Bommai charged the government with misusing power and employing undemocratic tactics to stifle opposition parties. He remarked that such occurrences evoke memories of the Emergency period.

He posed the question, “How can public representatives operate without fear when the government descends to such levels?”

Addressing Congress leaders’ claims that Munirathna was acting, he questioned, “Who would demean themselves by orchestrating such events?”

When asked about Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar’s challenge to MLC C.T. Ravi concerning a visit to Dharmasthala, Bommai commented that faith in God is a personal choice.

He pointed out that while prompt action was taken on one complaint, no FIR was registered against C.T. Ravi. He mentioned that if the High Court had not intervened, the situation could have escalated for Ravi.

Bommai also lambasted the government regarding the escalating prices of milk, declaring that a price hike spree is in progress.

He accused the government of imposing new taxes on a range of items, including stamp duty and excise taxes, totaling Rs 15,000 crore in additional taxes.

He noted that essential commodities, such as milk and water, are becoming increasingly costly, with sand and gravel prices expected to rise shortly.

“They are taxing every economic activity, and it won’t be long before they tax air,” Bommai sarcastically remarked.
