Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Jan 30 (NationPress) Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar refers to Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary as ‘Balidan Diwas’, encouraging people to embrace Bapu's principles of truth and non-violence in light of the escalating politics of hatred.

In a statement to reporters, Kumar remarked, “Today marks the 'Balidan Diwas' of Mahatma Gandhi. The entire nation and the world honor him today and commit to following the path of truth and non-violence that he advocated.”

For several years in Sarguja, non-political organizations have held this program in remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi.

“This is an excellent opportunity for us to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s sacrifices and to unite against the Godse-inspired politics that are prevalent in the country. We aim to strengthen the nation by advancing through democratic channels,” he stated.

While quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Kumar noted that a true Vaishnav is one who empathizes with the suffering of others, but expressed concern that modern politics has devolved into one of hatred, where some find joy in the misfortunes of others. He also recited the bhajan Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram, highlighting its message of communal harmony.

“When politics is intertwined with religion, it transforms into politics of hatred,” Kumar asserted, emphasizing the need to continuously remember Mahatma Gandhi to preserve the country’s unity and integrity.

Kumar urged members of the ruling BJP, stating that they, too, are part of the nation and its history, which is grounded in truth and non-violence, and should adhere to that path.

He also addressed Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s claim that Naxalism in Chhattisgarh would be eradicated by March 2026, stating, “Violence is detrimental to any society or nation. It is unacceptable to spill blood in the name of ideology or power. We do not endorse gun-based or violent ideologies.”

On the topic of the UP CM Awas Yojana for 63 Hindu Bengali families who fled Bangladesh, the Congress leader expressed that providing land and homes is a reason for joy.

He recalled an announcement that everyone would have permanent housing by 2022, but noted that many Hindus still lack permanent homes in India. He questioned the timing of promises to bring Hindus from Bangladesh for housing.

“Let’s wait and see when these ‘good days’ arrive. We have been waiting since 2014; perhaps you will continue to wait as well,” he concluded.
