Bhopal, Feb 28 (NationPress) Four residents of Bhopal, who were returning home after attending the recently concluded Kumbh Mela, faced a tragic fate on the Kanpur-Sagar Highway on Friday due to a collision that even left seasoned rescue teams in shock.

The accident took place at Bara Nala near Srinagar village in Mahoba district, Uttar Pradesh.

A truck, racing down the highway at an alarming speed, crashed head-on into their car, dragging the wreckage for more than 50 meters, according to police sources.

Immediately following the accident, a traffic jam ensued on the highway, complicating the police's efforts to rescue the injured. The driver of the truck fled the site shortly after the collision, as stated by police sources.

The immense force of the impact crumpled the vehicle into a twisted mass, necessitating the use of heavy machinery like earthmoving equipment to extract the victims.

Three of the deceased individuals - identified as Naresh, Puja, and Avdhesh - were retrieved after an hour-long struggle for survival within the car wreckage trapped beneath the truck.

The fourth occupant, a woman who sustained severe injuries, fought for her life but ultimately passed away at the district hospital in Mahoba.

Police sources described the scene as harrowing, with twisted metal and shattered glass littering the asphalt.

Authorities suspect reckless speeding on both ends may have led to the tragic crash.

In a separate incident, four individuals lost their lives on the Jabalpur-Nagpur National Highway in Seoni, Madhya Pradesh. A family returning from a wedding celebration was struck by a speeding truck transporting vegetables, resulting in no survivors.

The deceased were identified as Ghanshyam Jharia (50), his wife Sushila (45), and their young granddaughters Ambika (13) and Ramdoot (11).

The collision was so catastrophic that it caused the truck to overturn, spilling its cargo and creating chaos in the vicinity.

Investigations are ongoing in both cases, while the bodies of the victims have been sent for post-mortem examinations.
