Guwahati, April 11 (NationPress) The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate for Guwahati Central, Kunki Chowdhury, has received a summons from local police regarding alleged breaches of election regulations during the polling conducted on April 9, as confirmed by officials on Saturday.

Sources from the police report that a notice was issued by the Panbazar Police Station under applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), instructing Chowdhury to appear before the Officer-in-Charge at 11 a.m. on April 12 for interrogation.

Authorities indicated that there are sufficient grounds to investigate her involvement in an ongoing inquiry concerning reported irregularities.

This notice follows the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) at the Panbazar Police Station relating to alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct within the Guwahati Central Assembly constituency.

The case explicitly names Chowdhury and her social media team members. The complaint alleges that on election day, a political associate connected to Chowdhury was spotted in the constituency, breaching the required 48-hour silence period before voting.

Additional accusations include Chowdhury's entry into a polling station accompanied by a group and her interaction with voters, which could lead to undue influence on the electoral process.

There are also claims regarding vehicles associated with her campaign being present in restricted areas near polling booths and unauthorized personnel from her security team entering polling locations.

Investigators have mentioned instances of alleged voter outreach during the silence period, with digital and video evidence reportedly provided to support these claims.

The police have advised Chowdhury to assist with the investigation, avoid tampering with any evidence, and adhere to all instructions during the inquiry. Authorities cautioned that non-compliance with the summons could result in legal repercussions, including potential arrest.

In response to these developments, Chowdhury confirmed via social media that an FIR has been lodged against her and her team members. She reported that some associates were detained overnight and stated that she had already visited the police station to give her statement, stressing the importance of following due legal procedures, especially concerning the recording of a woman's statement.

Denying the allegations, Chowdhury claimed her campaign strictly followed Election Commission guidelines and labeled the actions as politically motivated, asserting they stemmed from her party's increasing public support.
