Tonk, June 3 (NationPress) In a shocking incident, an alcoholic labourer brutally murdered his wife, Kali Devi, aged 35, and injured their daughter in the Rajasthan district of Tonk on Tuesday, allegedly over a domestic dispute, according to police reports. Authorities have launched a manhunt to capture the suspect.
According to an official from the Banetha Police Station, Ram Sahay Reghar attacked his wife with an axe while she was sleeping in their home located in the village of Saroli during the early hours.
Inspector Ramvilas Gujjar arrived at the crime scene with a forensic team, where traces of blood were noticeable on the cot where the victim was resting at the time of the horrific act.
“We received an alert around 4 a.m. from relatives of the victim regarding the situation and promptly arrived at the location,” stated Head Constable Hanuman Prasad.
The victim was quickly transported to the government hospital in Saadat, where medical professionals pronounced her dead and proceeded with a post-mortem examination, police noted.
The couple's injured daughter is currently receiving medical care at the hospital, as confirmed by police.
Rajender Verma, Kali Devi’s brother, informed journalists that he was notified of the incident by law enforcement and rushed to Tonk from Jaipur thereafter.
He mentioned that his sister frequently expressed concerns about Ram Sahay’s violent tendencies, yet no one anticipated that it would escalate to her murder.
“We demand justice for the wrongdoing,” Verma said while awaiting the release of his sister’s body from the hospital's mortuary.
Mewa Ram, the victim’s father, revealed that his daughter had been married for 22 years and their family did not foresee such a tragic end.
As per government statistics, the average incidence of women-related crime across Rajasthan's 33 districts was 1,040 in 2019.
The number of recorded crimes against women in Rajasthan surged from 18,344 in 2010 to 41,623 in 2019, marking a staggering increase of 126.90 percent during that period, according to a CAG report titled ‘Statistical Trend of Crime Against Women in Rajasthan’.
Additionally, there was a 49.21 percent rise in registered crimes against women in 2019 compared to 2018, as per the same report.
