The Chief Minister's Office of Mizoram announced on Wednesday, 3 June 2026 that Chief Minister Lalduhoma has departed for Shillong to attend the 73rd Plenary of the North Eastern Council (NEC). The office said the Chief Minister travelled in his personal helicopter from Lengpui Airport, the main aviation gateway serving Aizawl.

In a post on X, the office wrote in Mizo that the Chief Minister was heading to Shillong to take part in the 73rd NEC Plenary, and that because it was a Wednesday, he had proceeded to Lengpui in his personal helicopter. It added a line of well-wishes: 'Tluang taka Shillong a thlen theih nan duhsakna kan hlan e' (We extend our good wishes for his safe arrival in Shillong).

Context

The North Eastern Council, headquartered in Shillong, is the statutory regional planning body for the eight northeastern states. Its plenary sessions bring together Chief Ministers, Governors and Union ministers to deliberate on integrated development, connectivity and centrally-sponsored funding for the region.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma, who has led the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) government in Mizoram since December 2023, is attending the forum in his capacity as the head of one of the council's eight member states. Mizoram has historically used the NEC platform to raise concerns over its hilly terrain, limited rail access and dependence on a single national highway corridor.
