Madhya Pradesh High Court Overturns NEET-PG 2024 State Counselling, Orders NBEMS to Generate New Merit List

Bhopal, December 9 (NationPress) The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ruled against the NEET-PG 2024 state merit list on Monday, declaring it invalid and nullifying the counselling process due to observed discrepancies.
The court mandated the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to promptly create a new state merit list.
This decision arose during the examination of a petition submitted by resident doctor Abhishek Shukla, affiliated with Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital (SGMH).
The petitioner expressed concerns about alleged unfair practices influencing the merit list's creation, prompting immediate action from the High Court.
He contended that, despite achieving high scores in the NEET merit list, several in-service candidates were ranked lower in the state merit list, which was seen as a breach of the selection process regulations.
During the proceedings, the division bench led by Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva noted that the normalisation process had been applied twice when formulating the merit list for MD-MS admissions.
"The state merit of the NEET PG 2024 examination for Madhya Pradesh is not sustainable and is hereby quashed," the court stated.
Additionally, the court instructed that the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) should generate a new state merit list that awards incentivised marks to in-service candidates based on their normalised scores rather than their raw scores.
The court reiterated the necessity for NBEMS to establish a new merit list to ensure fairness and adherence to the rules.
"This ruling seeks to amend the discrepancies and preserve the integrity of the selection process," the court highlighted.
