New Delhi, Jan 22 (NationPress) A remarkable increase in inbound spiritual travel to India has been reported, primarily fueled by Maha Kumbh 2025, according to a report released on Wednesday.

The visa processing platform Atlys has recorded a 21.4 percent rise in inbound travel for spiritual reasons.

This increase in applications is predominantly from travelers in the UK and US, highlighting a significant global fascination with India's spiritual heritage.

The data indicates that nearly 48 percent of all spiritual travel visa requests are associated with major events and pilgrimages, notably Maha Kumbh.

Furthermore, group inbound travel applications have surged by 35 percent, reflecting a growing inclination towards shared spiritual experiences.

The sacred destinations of Varanasi, Rishikesh, and Haridwar remain the top choices for travelers.

Traditionally, spiritual travel was linked to older generations; however, millennials now dominate this trend, with 66 percent of this demographic being women, indicating a shift towards female-led spiritual journeys, as highlighted in the report.

Over the last decade, there has been a steady rise in global interest in spiritual tourism, placing India at the forefront due to its rich spiritual legacy and diverse cultural landscape.

"India's spiritual heritage has consistently drawn global attention, but we are now witnessing an increased embrace of these sacred journeys by travelers seeking both adventure and self-discovery," stated Mohak Nahta, Founder and CEO of Atlys.

The Maha Kumbh and similar festivals are evolving beyond traditional pilgrims, appealing to a broader audience in search of meaningful experiences.

The Maha Kumbh, known as one of the largest religious gatherings globally, is currently ongoing and is anticipated to attract over 40 crore pilgrims.

Recent estimates from the Uttar Pradesh government indicate that more than 9.24 crore devotees have undertaken the sacred bath ('Amrit Snan') at Triveni Sangam.

Additionally, approximately 43.18 lakh devotees visited the Maha Kumbh Nagar on Tuesday (January 21).
