Maharashtra Chief Minister Orders CID to Confiscate Assets of Suspects in Beed Sarpanch Homicide

Mumbai, Dec 29 (NationPress) In the wake of a multi-party demonstration against the gruesome killing of Massajog Sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh, Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has mandated the Crime Investigation Department (CID) to confiscate the properties belonging to the suspects involved in this dreadful act.
The CID has already commenced its investigation into Deshmukh's murder, with the orders for property seizure issued late on Saturday night.
CM Fadnavis has instructed that the process of confiscating the accused's assets be initiated immediately and has also called for the revocation of licenses belonging to individuals whose photographs with firearms have circulated widely on social media.
These instructions were directed to CID’s Additional Director General Prashant Burde. The Chief Minister has also requested the CID to assess and cancel any revolver licenses that have been granted thus far.
CM Fadnavis’ orders come amidst ongoing concerns as three suspects implicated in the daylight murder of Santosh Deshmukh remain at large. Political entities, particularly the ruling BJP, along with various groups, are vocally demanding the swift apprehension of these absconding suspects and the orchestrator behind the murder.
It has now been 19 days since the tragic event, yet none of the suspects have been captured, leading to heightened tensions. An Akrosh Morcha was conducted in Beed by leaders from all parties on Saturday, insisting on the arrest of the suspects. Leaders from across the political spectrum are urging the police to detain Valmiki Karad, who is said to be a close associate of Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dhananjay Munde. They argue that the police must apprehend Karad, who is listed as a suspect in an extortion case and is allegedly linked to Deshmukh's murder.
NCP legislator and ex-Minister Prakash Solanke has called for Dhananjay Munde to be relieved of his ministerial duties pending the completion of ongoing investigations by the special investigation team and judicial commission regarding the murder of Santosh Deshmukh, as well as the worsening law and order situation and escalating extortion cases in Beed district.
Anti-corruption activist Anjali Damania has vowed to remain in Beed and continue her campaign until Dhananjay Munde resigns, alleging that the three suspects involved in Santosh Deshmukh’s murder have been eliminated.
