Mumbai, May 26 (NationPress) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his state visit, has instructed the administration to promptly initiate a damage assessment in the regions affected by rainfall and has promised government support.
The Chief Minister’s office, in a statement on X, noted, “Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is actively monitoring the rainfall situation throughout the state and has directed the entire administration to stay in alert mode. He has mandated immediate evaluations of damage in the impacted areas and maintains constant communication with the Chief Secretary and the disaster management cell of the state.”
“Intense rainfall has been recorded in Pune, Satara, Solapur, Raigad, Mumbai, and the MMR area. Daund experienced 117 mm, Baramati 104.75 mm, and Indapur 63.25 mm of rainfall. In Baramati, 25 homes suffered partial damage, while seven individuals trapped by floods were successfully rescued. Approximately 70 to 80 families have been moved to safer locations. Mobile services faced disruptions yesterday but are now being restored. In Indapur, two individuals were rescued from flood situations. Phaltan recorded 163.5 mm of rainfall, and one NDRF team is currently stationed there. 30 citizens were stranded near Dudhebavi village and have been provided with shelter and meals. Solapur reported 67.75 mm of rainfall. In Malshiras taluka, six individuals stranded due to floods have been relocated to safety. In Pandharpur, three individuals are trapped in the Bhima riverbed, with rescue operations underway,” stated the CMO.
“In Raigad, one individual lost their life due to a lightning strike, and the road from Mahad to Raigad Fort has been blocked due to heavy rains. Mumbai recorded 135.4 mm of rain in just 24 hours. Complaints regarding waterlogging came from six locations in Mumbai. A total of 18 incidents of short circuits and five reports of building wall collapses were logged. The BMC, Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, and other agencies are fully prepared for response. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported. Five NDRF teams are on standby in Mumbai for any necessary assistance. The weather department has projected rain along with thunderstorms and strong winds in Mumbai over the next 24 hours,” the CMO added.
Meanwhile, Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan, who assessed the emergency situation, confirmed that the system is adequately prepared to address the challenges posed by the heavy rainfall across the state.
