Mumbai, February 19 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Thursday that security forces have effectively dismantled the final 44 monuments built by Maoists as symbols of terror in the Gadchiroli district.

The Chief Minister noted, "The demolition of these 44 Maoist monuments signifies a crucial advancement in the fight against left-wing extremism in Gadchiroli. This initiative showcases the Maharashtra government's steadfast dedication to reestablishing peace, enhancing security, and fast-tracking development in the area."

He characterized the actions of the security forces as "Dismantling the Symbols of Naxalism, Constructing the Foundations of Peace and Progress."

"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the brave police force in Gadchiroli for this achievement. Their efforts transcend mere destruction of physical structures; they represent a significant triumph for democracy over the pervasive culture of fear that has gripped the local populace for years," the Chief Minister remarked.

Government sources reported that these monuments were strategically placed by the Maoists in both remote and extremely remote locations to instill terror among residents and assert their presence.

Nonetheless, the state's unwavering anti-Maoist stance has led to a notable transformation in Gadchiroli.

Enhanced security operations, a surrender policy, development initiatives, and growing trust from local communities have all contributed to this change.

In this regard, a meticulously planned search and inspection was conducted by approximately 800 personnel in a collaborative effort involving the Gadchiroli Police Force, C-60 Commandos, Central Reserve Police Force, and Special Squads.

Following an evaluation by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, these 44 monuments scattered across various forested areas were obliterated.

This anti-Maoist campaign in Etapalli, Hedri, Bhamragad, Jimlagatta, Dhanora, and Pendhari subdivisions was executed in notably sensitive regions.

"Whereas symbols of terror once stood, trust in the administration and aspirations for development now flourish."

"This operation symbolizes the shifting reality in Gadchiroli. It marks a pivotal point in the transition from fear to trust, from violence to progress," asserted government sources.

At the recent Advantage Vidarbha conference, Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasized that Gadchiroli is on track to become entirely free of Maoist influence, aligning with the Union Home Ministry's target of March 2026.

He announced that Gadchiroli is being developed into the Green Steel Hub of India.

He asserted that the local steel ecosystem is set to produce steel at lower costs than China, positioning the district as a global supplier.

Following the historic surrender of senior Maoist leader Mallojula Venugopal Rao (Bhupati) along with 60 others in October 2025, Chief Minister Fadnavis remarked that this event represents the "beginning of the end" for the Maoist movement in Maharashtra.

He noted that northern Gadchiroli is already free from Maoist activity, with only a few remnants remaining in the southern part.
