Pune, Oct 29 (NationPress) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the Maharashtra government is set to introduce the Maharashtra State Manufacturing Mission, mirroring the Centre’s National Manufacturing Mission.
Additionally, he revealed plans for a premier Global Frontier Technology Institute to be established within the state. This announcement was made during the 'The Road to India AI Impact Summit 2026' conference organized by NITI Aayog, focusing on the theme 'Reimagining Manufacturing: India's Roadmap to Global Leadership in Advanced Manufacturing.'
Fadnavis emphasized that Maharashtra aims to spearhead the advanced manufacturing sector in India, which is a key component of the state’s vision for Viksit Maharashtra 2047.
“We will promote advanced manufacturing, leading to significant transformations in this sector. To attract international collaboration, we must develop the necessary infrastructure to draw in individuals with exceptional innovative capabilities. A task force has been established to enhance the Ease of Doing Business in Maharashtra, targeting 100 improvements,” he explained.
The Chief Minister noted that Maharashtra has emerged as the nation's data centre capital and highlighted Pune’s reputation as a hub for manufacturing and technology.
“Plans are underway to create a quantum corridor linking Pune and Mumbai. Navi Mumbai is being promoted as a data centre city, and an innovation city is also planned along this corridor. Furthermore, EduCity is in the works, aiming to incorporate 12 leading global universities, with 7 already onboard,” he stated.
He reiterated that Maharashtra will lead the charge in making India a global hub for advanced manufacturing.
Expressing gratitude to NITI Aayog for its manufacturing roadmap, Fadnavis noted that Pune is at the forefront of technological advancements in this domain.
“Our approach must involve innovative thinking to foster growth in the manufacturing sector. Embracing frontier technology is crucial to strengthen our global competitive stance amidst emerging revolutions,” he added.
The Chief Minister highlighted the significance of AI, quantum computing, and semiconductors, which are transforming every sector today.
NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subramaniyam stated that no nation can advance without a robust manufacturing sector, noting the global shifts occurring within this field.
“Maharashtra currently leads the nation in terms of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), but continuous efforts are essential to maintain this status. Pune holds a significant position in the manufacturing landscape,” he remarked.
Subramaniyam mentioned that the 'National Manufacturing Mission' was introduced in the previous annual budget and that initiatives aligned with this mission are progressing rapidly.
“Our goal is to replicate the manufacturing transformations seen in other advanced nations,” he concluded.
He urged the state government to initiate the manufacturing mission, asserting that Pune should evolve into a center for frontier technology and proposed the establishment of a Frontier Tech Industrial Park alongside residential facilities for workers.
