Mumbai, Aug 1 (NationPress) The Maharashtra Minister of Women and Child Welfare, Aditi Tatkare, announced on Friday that the government will distribute a financial aid of Rs 1,500 for July to eligible women beneficiaries under the Ladki Bahin Yojana just before the celebrations of Raksha Bandhan, scheduled for August 8.
In her message on X, Minister Tatkare expressed, “A Raksha Bandhan gift to our cherished sisters! Following the guidance of Honourable Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, the Rs 1500 honorarium for July will be credited directly into the bank accounts of all eligible beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana.”
A government resolution was issued on Friday, confirming the distribution of the Rs 1,500 financial aid to eligible women beneficiaries for July on August 8.
The government has allocated Rs 2,984 crore for the July installment disbursement. The Mahayuti government has earmarked Rs 36,000 crore for the Ladki Bahin Yojana for the fiscal year 2025-26.
Previously, Minister Tatkare noted that out of 2.52 crore beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, which was launched before the assembly elections, 26.34 lakh women were receiving the monthly aid of Rs 1,500 despite not meeting eligibility criteria.
Moreover, the department discovered that 14,298 men had also benefitted from the scheme. Estimates suggest that the financial loss due to ineligible beneficiaries could amount to approximately Rs 4,800 crore to date.
Minister Tatkare stated, “We have found that some beneficiaries are receiving funds from multiple schemes, some families have more than two beneficiaries, and in certain cases, men have applied for the scheme.”
As a result, starting from June 2025, the benefits for these 26.34 lakh applicants have been temporarily halted.
“In addition, the government has successfully disbursed the Rs 1,500 aid for June to around 2.25 crore eligible beneficiaries of the Ladki Bahin Yojana,” she remarked.
The minister emphasized that the eligibility of the 26.34 lakh beneficiaries whose benefits have been suspended will be verified by the corresponding District Collectors, and those found eligible will have their benefits reinstated by the government.”
Furthermore, she mentioned, “A suitable decision regarding actions against fraudulent beneficiaries who misled the government will be made after consultations with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.”
According to department sources, information from various government departments has been requested to identify all eligible applications under this scheme.
As per data from the Information and Technology Department, 26.34 lakh beneficiaries have been identified as ineligible, and their support has been temporarily suspended pending further review.
Reports indicate that approximately five beneficiaries under the Ladki Bahin Yojana have previously been declared ineligible during scrutiny as they were found receiving benefits from other schemes, while some exceeded the age limit.
Of the five lakh beneficiaries, 30,000 from the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana, 1.10 lakh women aged over 65, and 1.60 lakh beneficiaries of the Namoshakti Yojana had already been declared ineligible.
