No Examination of Applications for Ladki Bahin Yojana: Maharashtra Minister Aditi Tatkare

Mumbai, Jan 2 (NationPress) Maharashtra Women and Child Welfare Minister Aditi Tatkare stated on Thursday that the government will not conduct a mass examination of applications received under the prominent Ladki Bahin Yojana, which offers a monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,500 to eligible women beneficiaries from July onwards.

"No application will be examined in general. We will not assess any application unless a complaint has been lodged. If the income of a beneficiary increases beyond Rs 2.5 lakh, they will no longer qualify for the scheme; likewise, women who own four-wheelers or those married inter-state are disqualified; if the name on the Aadhaar card does not match the name in the bank, and this is brought to our notice, the concerned woman will be deemed ineligible," she elaborated.

The Minister further mentioned that the Women and Child Welfare Department has received five different types of complaints related to the Ladki Bahin Yojana.

"We will investigate these complaints. Some grievances have originated from local administration, while other beneficiary women have written indicating their ineligibility for the scheme. The applications associated with received complaints will undergo verification. However, there will be no alterations to the original government resolution," she stated.

"Applications from women whose income exceeds Rs 2.5 lakh but who are still benefiting from the scheme will be verified. We will also check applications from women with four-wheelers, and those submitted by the same woman multiple times will be scrutinized. Applications for migration from Maharashtra to other states post-marriage will also be evaluated," Tatkare added.

She also highlighted that applications with discrepancies between names on the Aadhaar card and other documents will be verified.

Department sources indicated that during the application verification process, women beneficiaries whose income surpasses Rs 2.5 lakh or who own four-wheelers may potentially be excluded from the scheme.

Under the Ladki Bahin Yojana, initiated in July, Tatkare noted that the government has received 2.63 crore applications statewide, with 2.47 crore applicants qualifying for the monthly benefit of Rs 1,500.

Additionally, the bank accounts of 12.87 lakh women were previously unlinked with Aadhaar cards, preventing them from receiving the scheme's benefits before the Assembly elections.

However, the funds have recently been credited to the bank accounts of these 12.87 lakh women after linking them to their Aadhaar cards.

In October, the government transferred Rs 7,500 for the months of July to November directly into the bank accounts of 2.34 crore women beneficiaries.

The Minister confirmed that during the supplementary demands presented in the Winter session of the State Legislature, the government allocated Rs 1,400 crore to provide financial assistance for December.
