Maha Ladki Bahins: January Payment Distribution Commences
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, February 24 (NationPress) — In a significant boost for numerous women throughout Maharashtra, the state administration has initiated the rollout of the January instalment of Rs 1,500 under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana.
Minister of Women and Child Development, Aditi Tatkare, announced the news via social media, confirming that the technical procedure for transferring the financial aid to eligible recipients began on February 23.
The funds are being deposited directly into the beneficiaries' Aadhaar-linked bank accounts using the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. Many beneficiaries had been anticipating the January instalment for close to two months.
The delay was caused by various factors, including administrative complexities and the political environment in the state following the recent passing of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
However, government sources indicated that numerous women started receiving SMS notifications regarding the Rs 1,500 credit as early as Monday night.
In her post on X, Minister Tatkare highlighted the government's dedication to the initiative's success. She stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, the scheme will continue its "powerful journey" without disruptions.
"The technical process began yesterday, and within the next 2 to 3 days, the honorarium will be credited to the bank accounts of all eligible 'Ladki Bahins' across the state," the Minister remarked.
For women who have not yet received their benefits due to errors in their e-KYC (particularly those who made incorrect selections during the process), the government has provided a chance for corrections.
Earlier, the state administration reversed its decision to conduct physical verifications of ineligible beneficiaries via Anganwadi workers and has instead extended the deadline for completing and rectifying e-KYC details on the online portal until March 31.
This decision was made by the state Women and Child Welfare department after several beneficiaries voiced their challenges during the e-KYC process.
"We have received complaints concerning difficulties in accessing scheme benefits due to some beneficiaries making incorrect selections during the e-KYC process. All eligible sisters who have completed the KYC but have not yet received the benefits are being granted another opportunity to correct their e-KYC information," stated Minister Tatkare.
She also mentioned that the facility to amend KYC details via the online portal will remain accessible until March 31, 2026.
The Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana is a flagship initiative of the Mahayuti government, aimed at enhancing the economic empowerment, health, and nutrition of women in Maharashtra.
Currently, the scheme provides Rs 1,500 per month, with speculations hinting at a potential increase to Rs 2,100 in the forthcoming state budget.
