Mumbai, Sep 11 (NationPress) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who oversees the Energy Department, announced on Thursday that the state-owned electricity distribution entity Mahavitran has achieved the top position in India for reliable power supply, boasting an impressive score of 93.
“This accomplishment has established new standards in reliable power delivery, financial stability, and energy transition. The REC evaluated Mahavitran based on five critical factors, including ease of living/doing business, financial health of the distribution company, energy transition, and regulatory governance,” stated the Chief Minister.
He extended his congratulations to the Energy Department, all companies in the sector, various agencies, from field staff to directors, engineers, and the systems working within the non-conventional energy realm, for their dedication to providing customer-focused and consistently high-quality services.
The Chief Minister also recognized the electricity consumers, highlighting that their confidence in these systems has played a vital role in Mahavitran’s leading position. He expressed his satisfaction that this ranking confirms that Maharashtra's energy sector is progressing in a robust and positive direction.
“The Government of India's 'REC' Maharatna company and the Power Foundation of India have released the ranking based on multiple criteria. Maharashtra has received an 'A' category rating with a score of 93 points,” he further explained.
Additionally, he mentioned that Maharashtra has formulated plans for electricity demand projections extending to 2035.
“Maharashtra has achieved first place among states that have laid out such demand projections in the energy sector. The state currently has a total installed capacity of 42,000 MW, with plans to add another 45,000 MW in the next five years, raising the total to 87,000 MW,” he concluded.
The official announcement emphasized that Maharashtra has secured the top position in the Western region ratings from REC and PFI, outperforming other states including Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli-Diu and Daman.
“Maharashtra scored 32 points for power supply reliability, 25 points for financial viability of distribution, 17 points for ease of living, 15 points for adaptability in the energy sector, and 5 points for regulatory governance,” it noted.
The official release also confirmed that Maharashtra has achieved the highest score of 93 points, earning an 'A' category rating.
According to sources within the Energy Department, Maharashtra aims to generate 52% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.
“The state has initiated plans to supply 100% electricity to farmers through daytime and complete solar power projects totaling 16,000 MW by the end of December 2026, a planning effort recognized by the REC rating,” the sources added.
