Kolkata, March 7 (NationPress) West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a fierce attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday, accusing the party of exploiting its allies and appointees for political advantage, only to discard them later. During her ongoing protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Central Kolkata, Banerjee referenced Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, and the recently resigned West Bengal Governor, C.V. Ananda Bose, as key examples of this strategy of 'use and discard.'

“Poor Nitish Kumar! He promoted OBC-related politics ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, and now, post-elections, he seems to be shifting his focus to Delhi. Anyone who falls into the BJP's trap faces a similar fate. Just look at how C.V. Ananda Bose was ousted—he was compelled to resign. The BJP utilizes individuals until their objectives are fulfilled,” Banerjee stated at her protest venue, which commenced on Friday.

The Chief Minister also criticized the national economic policies, arguing they disadvantage West Bengal.

“Due to such national policies, coal from our state is taken away, and we are unfairly labeled in connection with coal smuggling. Coal is not managed by us but by the Union government, specifically Coal India Limited and the Central Industrial Security Force,” she explained.

Banerjee accused the BJP of orchestrating a campaign to diminish the state's investment appeal while emphasizing the developmental projects and industrial progress taking place in West Bengal.

“We are constructing six economic corridors in the state, and two thermal power plants, each with a capacity of 1,600 MW, are being established in Salboni. Our state leads the nation in the Information Technology sector, employing more people in this field than Bengaluru. We have witnessed the emergence of 200 new companies. Those who disparage Bengal should recognize that we are number one in the small and medium enterprises sector, providing jobs for 15 million individuals. Additionally, 750,000 people are employed in the leather industry,” she asserted.

Banerjee also addressed employment trends in the state, noting a significant reduction in the unemployment rate over the years. “We have launched specialized training programs for youth seeking jobs. Furthermore, we have initiatives for migrant workers who wish to return to West Bengal,” the Chief Minister concluded.

Point of View

Mamata Banerjee's accusations towards the BJP reflect ongoing political tensions and the challenges faced by regional leaders in navigating their alliances. The allegations raise questions about the BJP's treatment of its partners and the broader implications for governance in West Bengal.
