Kolkata, Feb 15 (NationPress) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has dispatched flowers and sweets to Tarique Rahman in celebration of his party’s significant win in Bangladesh’s 13th national parliamentary election, according to sources from the state government on Sunday.
Banerjee extended her congratulations to the people of Bangladesh, addressing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader as Tarique Bhai, and sent her best wishes to the neighboring country ahead of the holy month of Ramzan.

My advance Ramazan mubarak to each of you. For this remarkable victory, I extend my congratulations to my Tarique-Bhai, his party, and all others. I pray for your well-being and happiness. May our relations with Bangladesh always remain friendly."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Rahman via a Facebook post, praising him for steering the BNP to a decisive victory.
"I was delighted to speak with Mr. Tarique Rahman. I congratulated him on the exceptional victory in the Bangladesh elections. I offered my best wishes and support for his efforts to meet the aspirations of the people of Bangladesh,” he wrote.
“As two neighboring nations with profound historical and cultural connections, I reaffirmed India’s ongoing commitment to the peace, progress, and prosperity of both our peoples,” PM Modi added.
Voting for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election and referendum concluded on Thursday, with the Election Commission of Bangladesh announcing official results for 297 of the 300 seats on Friday.
Among the 297 declared seats, the BNP and its allies won 212 seats, while the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party electoral coalition secured 77 seats, Islami Andolan Bangladesh achieved one seat, and independent candidates claimed seven seats.
