Kolkata, Feb 13 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, extended her congratulations to Tarique Rahman, the Prime Minister-designate, following the Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) resounding victory in the recent general elections held on Thursday, with results announced on Friday morning.
In a message shared via her official social media account, Chief Minister Banerjee also acknowledged the citizens of Bangladesh for their active involvement in the elections, which were largely conducted without incident on Thursday.
“I offer my warmest congratulations, 'Shubhonandan', to all my Bangladeshi brothers and sisters. I wish them an early Ramazan Mubarak. Earlier that day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Tarique Rahman and the BNP leadership on their election success.

At the time of this report, neither the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, nor the BJP’s state president in West Bengal, Samik Bhattacharya, had released any comments regarding the Bangladesh elections.
The former state BJP president in West Bengal and current Union Minister of State, Sukanta Majumdar, merely shared the Prime Minister’s statement on his social media account.
Only the ex-BJP state president of West Bengal, Dilip Ghosh, made a short remark to the press expressing optimism for improved relations between India and Bangladesh in the near future.
