Dhaka, Feb 14 (NationPress) The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) expressed its gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his kind wishes following the party's landmark triumph in the general elections. The BNP emphasized its eagerness to engage in a constructive dialogue with India to strengthen the multifaceted relationship and promote peace in the region.

In a message shared on X, the BNP stated, "We sincerely thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Your recognition of Mr Tarique Rahman's leadership in securing the BNP's significant victory in the national elections is greatly valued. This achievement reflects the trust and confidence bestowed upon us by the people of Bangladesh in our leadership and the democratic process."

The party reiterated its commitment to uphold democratic principles, inclusiveness, and progressive development for all citizens.

The BNP also expressed aspirations to enhance bilateral relations with India, stating, "We are looking forward to engaging proactively with India to further our diverse relationship, underpinned by mutual respect, sensitivity to one another's concerns, and a shared dedication to peace, stability, and prosperity in our region."

In a recent phone call, PM Modi congratulated BNP chairman Tarique Rahman on the party's electoral success, voicing India's support for his efforts to meet the expectations of the Bangladeshi populace.

"I was delighted to converse with Mr Tarique Rahman. I congratulated him on his extraordinary victory in the Bangladesh elections and conveyed my best wishes for his mission to fulfill the aspirations of the Bangladeshi people. As two neighboring nations with deep-rooted historical and cultural connections, I reaffirmed India's commitment to the peace, progress, and prosperity of both our peoples," PM Modi wrote on X after their discussion.

This conversation followed the BNP-led coalition's assertion of a decisive win in the elections, securing 210 seats, thus exceeding the majority threshold and setting the stage for a new government.

PM Modi also conveyed warm wishes to Tarique Rahman for leading his party to such a significant victory.

Tarique Rahman is poised to take the oath as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, marking the return of a male Prime Minister to the country after nearly 35 years.

Upon the passing of his mother, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, last December, Tarique Rahman assumed leadership of the BNP. He is also the son of former President Ziaur Rahman, the founder of the BNP.
