Manickam Tagore Seeks Removal of Piyush Goyal’s Comments on Congress in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Dec 12 (NationPress) Congress MP Manickam Tagore has formally addressed Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, asking for the removal of specific statements made by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal during the session on Wednesday, December 11.

Tagore’s communication asserts, “Hon'ble Speaker, I wish to bring to your esteemed attention certain serious derogatory remarks made by Piyush Goyal. During Zero Hour, when Gaurav Gogoi, Deputy Leader of the Indian National Congress, highlighted the severe humanitarian crisis in Manipur, Piyush Goyal made objectionable comments.

In his letter, Tagore stressed that Goyal’s remarks were unwarranted and defamatory. Citing Rule 380 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Lok Sabha, he reminded the Speaker that words deemed defamatory, indecent, unparliamentary, or undignified could be expunged.

“The statements made by Piyush Goyal were defamatory and undignified, hence, they require immediate expunging. It is both surprising and concerning why these remarks remain in the record,” Tagore noted.

He called for swift action from the Speaker to remove the comments from the Lok Sabha proceedings.

Tagore also specified the remarks made by Goyal that he considered objectionable. According to Tagore, Goyal claimed that the Congress Party was responsible for internal strife in the nation and accused it of connections with foreign entities.

Goyal asserted: “The Congress Party is accountable for the internal disturbances in the country and is collaborating with foreign forces. They have an additional set of connections with foreign entities, which is why the country faces internal issues. The Congress Party is fundamentally responsible for this situation. It is due to the Congress Party's alliances with George Soros and other international bodies that the country is suffering today. Internal conflicts are instigated by the Congress Party's links with organizations funded by George Soros. Congress and such entities are destabilizing the Indian economy. This connection has existed for over 25 years.”

Tagore deemed these comments baseless and defamatory, arguing that such claims compromise the decorum of parliamentary proceedings and demanded their removal from the official records of the House.
