Manipur CM Singh backs MPSC 2022 batch, cites merit-based hiring
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday, 15 July reaffirmed that transparency and fairness are the state government's foremost priorities in public recruitment, addressing a felicitation ceremony for successful candidates of the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) 2022 batch at a hotel in Imphal. The Chief Minister stated that a merit-based recruitment system strengthens public confidence in governance and state institutions.
What the Chief Minister Said
Speaking at the event, CM Singh posed a direct question to the newly selected officers — asking whether any of them had doubts about the transparency of the recruitment process. The candidates responded with a unanimous 'No,' which the Chief Minister cited as a validation of the process.
Singh disclosed that he had deliberately avoided contacting or meeting the MPSC Chairman prior to the declaration of results, choosing to offer congratulations only after the outcome was announced. He said this was a conscious decision to ensure the process remained impartial and free from external influence of any kind.
Scholarship Scheme for Civil Service Aspirants
The Chief Minister also highlighted the Chief Minister's Scholarship Scheme for Civil Services, implemented by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state government with an annual outlay of ₹2.8 crore. Under the scheme, the top 200 civil service aspirants receive full scholarships for their preparation, reflecting the government's stated commitment to drawing talented youth into public service.
Coaching Centres and Pandemic Challenges
CM Singh also lauded private coaching centres in the state for continuing to support civil service aspirants through significant adversity, including disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur. He acknowledged their role in producing the current batch of successful candidates.
Retired IAS Officer Urges Integrity
Retired IAS officer R.K. Nimai Singh, who also addressed the felicitation programme, congratulated the successful candidates and urged them to uphold integrity, honesty, and dedication throughout their careers. He cautioned against corruption, drug abuse, and unethical conduct that could damage the reputation of civil services.
Nimai Singh further emphasised that officers selected through the MPSC hold a critical role in Manipur's development, given their deeper understanding of the state's ground realities and aspirations. The Chief Minister, alongside other dignitaries, formally felicitated the MPSC 2022 batch during the ceremony.
