Imphal, March 2 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Manipur, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, highlighted the critical importance of closely monitoring the consumption of foreign liquor and enhancing efforts to tackle illegal liquor operations throughout the state.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated five new vehicles intended for the Excise Department, aimed at boosting surveillance and effectively addressing illegal liquor-related activities.
In statements to the press, he remarked that this initiative would play a pivotal role in combating the illicit liquor trade and improving enforcement on the ground.
Singh characterized this measure as a significant advancement in enhancing the department’s operational capabilities and mobility.
A senior official noted that with the partial lifting of prohibition in certain regions of the state effective from December 6, 2023, residents now have regulated access to non-adulterated Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL).
However, the official stressed that stringent vigilance and ongoing field monitoring are crucial to ensure the integrity of the government’s decision.
The Chief Minister asserted that the addition of these new vehicles would greatly enhance the department's field operations, improve enforcement strategies, and facilitate more effective monitoring throughout the state.
“With better mobility, officials will be positioned to respond swiftly to on-ground requirements, carry out inspections more effectively, and ensure improved coordination among various stations and zones,” he explained.
The flag-off event saw attendance from several MLAs and high-ranking officials from the Excise Department, among others.
In a separate engagement, the Chief Minister inaugurated a model residential school under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) and unveiled the newly constructed Science and Arts Block of Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School in Imphal East.
Later that day, Singh met with a delegation from the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), led by President Peter Kuba, at the Civil Secretariat.
In a post on his X handle, Singh referred to the meeting as constructive and forward-looking, emphasizing the importance of fostering peace, mutual understanding, and inclusive development in the state.
“I reaffirmed my unwavering commitment to respecting the dignity and aspirations of every community, aiming to eliminate distrust and negativity. Together, we will forge a harmonious Manipur where all 36 communities coexist in unity, joy, and shared prosperity. Let’s progress with dialogue, collaboration, and a collective vision for a peaceful and developed Manipur,” he stated.
