Imphal/Guwahati, March 7 (NationPress) High-ranking officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), headed by General Manager (Construction) Ashish Bansal, convened with Manipur's Chief Minister Khemchand Yumnam to review the status of the crucial 111-km Jiribam–Imphal railway initiative, as reported on Saturday.

An official from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stated that Bansal, along with other railway representatives, updated the Chief Minister on the current advancements and ongoing construction of the railway link that connects Jiribam, adjacent to Assam, to the state capital, Imphal.

In a Facebook post, the Chief Minister remarked: “I met with Ashish Bansal, General Manager, NF Railway Construction (Maligaon), and his team at the Secretariat. They informed me about the latest developments in the construction of this railway line, which is a landmark infrastructure venture for our state.”

“I stressed that the launch of this railway line will greatly enhance Manipur’s transport infrastructure, improve connectivity, and ensure a more effective and secure supply chain. This transformative initiative is set to significantly uplift the quality of life for our citizens, aligning with the vision of our esteemed Prime Minister, Narendra Modi,” he added.

The Chief Minister further stated that the state administration is fully dedicated to providing all necessary assistance to guarantee the prompt completion of this essential infrastructure project, crucial for the advancement and prosperity of Manipur.

NFR officials disclosed that the Rs 21,885 crore Jiribam-Imphal railway project has already reached approximately 90 percent physical completion.

Once finalized, the railway line is anticipated to substantially enhance tourism, stimulate industrial development, create job opportunities, and contribute to the overall socio-economic progress of the state.

Upon completion, Imphal will be integrated into the national railway network, becoming the fifth capital in the northeastern region to have such a connection, following Dispur, Agartala, Itanagar, and Aizawl.

Additionally, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla recently visited Noney district to oversee the construction of the world's tallest railway pier bridge over the Ijei River.

This railway bridge is an integral part of the 111-km Jiribam–Imphal railway project and will be vital in linking the state capital with the national railway network.

During his visit, railway engineers briefed the Governor on the ongoing construction and mentioned that the bridge is nearing completion and will be finished soon.

Bhalla commended the engineers for their hard work and encouraged them to persist in their efforts for the betterment of the state's residents.
