Imphal, April 23 (NationPress) Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla remarked on Wednesday that considerable efforts have been made in recent months to re-establish normalcy and guide the state towards a trajectory of peace, stability, and inclusive development.

During the Khongjom Day commemoration at the Khongjom War Memorial Complex in Thoubal district, the Governor emphasized ongoing programs aimed at enhancing the rehabilitation of displaced individuals residing in various relief camps.

“Through the Union Ministry of Tourism's ‘Hunar Se Rojgar’ initiative, measures have been introduced to generate employment opportunities for the youth, especially those impacted by displacement due to ethnic violence,” Bhalla noted.

The Governor honored the memory of the fallen heroes of the Khongjom War of 1891 by laying a wreath at the war memorial atop Kheba hill.

A guard of honor, general salute, the sounding of the Last Post, a two-minute silence, slope arms, and order arms were performed in tribute to the brave souls who sacrificed their lives defending the sovereignty of Manipur.

Bhalla also led the gathering in paying homage to Paona Brajabashi by laying a wreath at the statue of the freedom fighter at Kheba foothill, followed by gun salutes.

The Governor paid tribute at the Khongjom River and also honored the Sankirtan.

While addressing the assembly, he strongly denounced the recent terror attack at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir and extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.

Reflecting on the occasion, he stated that ‘Khongjom Day’ serves as a tribute to the courageous sons of Manipur who laid down their lives in the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891 for their homeland.

In the face of adversity, the valiant warriors of Manipur relentlessly resisted the British Empire in their fight for independence.

The battle of Khongjom transcended mere arms; it was a battle of honor, patriotism, and self-determination.

The unyielding spirit of the people of Manipur is a distinctive narrative of patriotism in the world, Bhalla remarked.

Highlighting the significance of strengthening the education sector, he asserted that it is essential for the youth to not only grasp the history but also acquire the knowledge and skills needed to excel in today’s fast-evolving world.

The recent launch of Information Technology Centres in Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Senapati districts, funded by the Ministry of Home Affairs, marks a pivotal advancement in equipping students with the essentials for success in the digital era.

The Governor also shared that the state has initiated the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (drugs-free India campaign) to promote awareness about the dangers of substance abuse, as part of the Indian government’s broader mission towards a drug-free nation.

In another significant achievement for rural advancement, Manipur has received an unprecedented allocation under MGNREGA for the fiscal year 2025-26, the highest amount ever sanctioned for the state under this scheme, he added.

The Governor encouraged the youth to actively contribute to the development of a better Manipur and to uphold the principles of justice, equality, and brotherhood.

He urged everyone to honor the sacrifices made during the Battle of Khongjom by working towards a brighter, stronger, and united Manipur.

Former Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh, Lok Sabha member Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, MLAs, Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, and other senior civil and police officials attended the event.
