Manipur High Court Orders Biweekly Report on Missing Meitei Man

Imphal, Dec 20 (NationPress) The Manipur High Court has mandated that the enquiry committee established to investigate the disappearance of a 56-year-old man from the Meitei community must deliver updates on the case every two weeks.

The bench, consisting of Chief Justice D Krishnakumar and Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui, noted during proceedings that the investigation into the case of Laisram Kamalbabu Singh is ongoing. They have received the CCTV footage, which has been forwarded for Forensic Science analysis.

Following a petition submitted by the brother of the missing individual earlier this month, the court established a four-member committee led by the District Magistrate of Kangpokpi to investigate the matter.

The committee also includes the Superintendent of Police from both the Kangpokpi and Imphal West Districts, along with the Commanding Officer of the 57 Mountain Division, Signal Regiment.

Kamalbabu Singh, who lived in Gossaipur located in Cachar district of southern Assam, was residing in Loitang Khunou village in Imphal West district. He left his home on November 25 to go to the Leimakhong military station, where he was employed as a supervisor for a contractor associated with the Military Engineering Services (MES), but has since been unaccounted for.

Military sources report that approximately 2,000 soldiers from the Army and Assam Rifles are actively searching for the missing 56-year-old.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) and Meira Paibis (women's vigilantes in Manipur) have called upon Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for assistance in locating the man, who has now been missing for 26 days.

The influential Meira Paibis and the JAC continue to protest separately against the abduction of Kamalbabu Singh.

JAC leaders previously met with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to discuss the matter and urged him to enhance the search efforts to find the missing individual.
