The victim has been identified as Sushma Singh (32).

Sushma Singh served as a ‘Vikas Mitra’ in the Atri block.

According to law enforcement, her husband, Ramesh Singh, entered their residence, locked the door from the inside, and then shot Sushma three times using a homemade pistol before escaping the scene.

The victim’s sister, Poonam Kumari, claimed that Sushma had wed Ramesh Singh 16 years ago against societal expectations.

“It was an inter-caste union. On that Wednesday, Ramesh came home, locked the door, and shot my sister. He then fled. We demand the death penalty for him,” Poonam expressed, fighting back tears.

She further mentioned that she had just returned home shortly before the tragic incident and was in another room when Ramesh Singh committed the act and left the scene.

Local residents notified the police immediately after the shooting, which initiated prompt action from the district authorities. The incident has left the victim’s family in deep mourning, with heart-wrenching scenes at their home.
