New Delhi, Oct 17 (NationPress) The Department of Posts (DoP) has unveiled a specialized medicine delivery system for ex-servicemen, as announced by the Ministry of Communications on Friday.
This service, initiated in partnership with the Department of Ex-servicemen Welfare (DESW), aims to streamline the process of collecting, booking, transporting, and delivering medications that are unavailable at ECHS polyclinics under the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS).
“Through this initiative, medicines will be procured and packaged by Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) at Common Service Centres (CSC) located at ECHS polyclinics, while logistics and delivery will be overseen by India Post’s reputable delivery network,” stated the Ministry.
“This collaboration guarantees that medications are delivered to ECHS beneficiaries swiftly, securely, and to every corner of the country,” it further added.
The service was initially piloted in Delhi on July 31, where it garnered positive feedback, leading to its expansion in the NCR region, which includes Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
Building on the success of the pilot program, which saw over 1,700 medicine packets delivered, a comprehensive mapping of 458 ECHS locations nationwide has been completed, allowing the service to launch across the country starting October 17.
“This initiative embodies the Department of Posts’ dedication to utilizing its vast postal network for community welfare and public service,” the Ministry noted.
“The service promises timely and trustworthy delivery of medicines to ECHS beneficiaries, reinforcing India Post’s position as a reliable partner in nation-building and citizen welfare,” it concluded.
In September, the Department of Posts entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Institute of Packaging to promote sustainable packaging solutions within postal services.
This collaboration emphasizes the development of innovative and eco-friendly packaging alternatives, targeting sustainable substitutes for existing materials such as corrugated boxes and cloth wraps, while also focusing on creating materials that are environmentally friendly, cost-effective, durable, lightweight, customizable, and scalable.
