Meghalaya's Strength Derived from Harmonious Co-existence of Various Communities: Conrad Sangma

Shillong, Jan 10 (NationPress) The strength of Meghalaya is fundamentally based on the rich diversity and the harmonious co-existence of its various communities, as stated by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday.

During the inauguration of the Centenary Jubilee Celebration at Chutwakhu locality in the West Jaiñtia Hills district, the Chief Minister underscored the vital role of community unity. He proclaimed that the essence of Meghalaya's strength lies in its diverse communities and encouraged local members to collaborate with the government to foster growth and development in both the district and the state.

Recognizing the efforts of the founding leaders of Chutwakhu, Sangma extended his congratulations to the Dorbar Chnong for reaching the remarkable milestone of 100 years, which symbolizes the community spirit that promotes growth and prosperity in the area.

Sangma described the Chutwakhu community as progressive, noting its early support for women’s leadership and involvement in community welfare dating back to 1931.

He highlighted that since 1934, Chutwakhu has provided opportunities for youth organizations to flourish, affirming that the collective efforts of men, women, and youth illustrate the positive impact of community collaboration.

Moreover, Sangma expressed his happiness regarding the preparations for the Meghalaya Games in Jowai, marking a significant moment for the West Jaiñtia Hills.

He reiterated that investing in sports infrastructure is not merely an expense, but a vital investment in our youth—the future of the state.

Additionally, he distributed cheques totaling Rs 21 lakhs (Rs 1 lakh each) to 21 sports clubs and associations in West Jaiñtia Hills to assist with their preparations for the upcoming Meghalaya Games.

Deputy Chief Minister Snaiwbhalang Dhar, alongside MLAs Wailadmiki Shylla and Lahkmen Rymbui, also participated in the event.

Deputy CM Dhar remarked that this event signifies a significant milestone for the shnong, showcasing the commitment of visionary leaders and the founding figures of the community. He expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister for bringing the Meghalaya Games to the Jaintia Hills.
