Meghalaya's Youth Face Challenges in Financial Literacy: Conrad Sangma

Shillong, Nov 28 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma, stated on Thursday that financial literacy and skills are notably lacking among the youth in the state. He proposed that a collaborative initiative between the Education Department and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) could significantly enhance this situation.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was executed today involving the Education Department of the Meghalaya government and the NSE, in the presence of Chief Minister Sangma, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, and relevant officials from both the Education Department and the NSE.

The MoU aims to deliver financial literacy training to college students focused on banking and insurance.

Chief Minister Sangma expressed that the youth and budding entrepreneurs in the state are in dire need of financial literacy and skills.

He commented, "The financial literacy programs by the NSE will empower individuals to make sound financial decisions, mitigate risky consequences, and secure their futures through informed choices."

Additionally, CM Sangma inaugurated the first phase of the Meghalaya Biological Park at Untrew in the Ri Bhoi District, a project that has been in the works for approximately 24 years.

Expressing his satisfaction over the completion of this long-delayed project, Chief Minister Sangma remarked, "It brings me immense joy to inaugurate the first phase of the Meghalaya Biological Park, which faced numerous challenges over the past 24 years since its inception."

"While we are celebrating this inauguration today, there is still much work to be done to ensure this site becomes vibrant and fully operational," he stated.

CM Sangma also noted that several aspects of the Biological Park, such as ticketing counters, cafeterias, souvenir shops, and animal enclosures, are yet to be finalized, making it crucial to open the facility to the public.

He added, "This Biological Park has the potential to serve not only as a venue for entertainment and leisure but also as a platform for engaging the youth, fostering empathy and responsibility towards our environment and wildlife among young individuals and children."

"The government aims to maintain an ecological balance, and initiatives like this provide an opportunity to offer sanctuary to rescued animals or those unable to return to their natural habitats," concluded the Chief Minister.
