Itanagar, April 24 (NationPress) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced on Thursday the intention to erect a lasting memorial for Indian Air Force (IAF) Corporal Tage Hailyang, who tragically lost his life in the violent terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam.
After paying his respects to the fallen IAF Corporal, the Chief Minister also declared that a government job would be granted to a family member of the deceased, along with a financial aid package of Rs 50 lakhs.
The memorial will be established in Hailyang's home village of Tajang in the Lower Subansiri district.
Corporal Hailyang was visiting Pahalgam with his wife, who survived the attack that claimed the lives of 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister remarked: “In the face of grave danger, Tage Hailyang exhibited remarkable bravery. He had the opportunity to flee but chose to safeguard those around him instead. He risked his life by directing civilians to safety, helping them evade the line of fire.”
His selflessness during that critical period is a rare and inspiring display of valor, he emphasized.
“I visited his mourning wife, parents, and family at their residence in Tajang and extended my deepest sympathies. The loss is immeasurable, and the people of Arunachal Pradesh stand united with the family during this time of deep sorrow,” he noted.
Khandu highlighted Hailyang's inspiring journey, which began with his early education in Ziro (a town in the Lower Subansiri district) and at Haryana’s Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, leading to his graduation from Don Bosco, Itanagar, and his committed service in the IAF since 2017. This journey reflects the strength, discipline, and patriotism of our youth.
“We categorically condemn this abhorrent act of terrorism. The ongoing protection of terrorist factions by Pakistan poses a severe threat to global stability and must be addressed with decisive action. I commend the resolute stance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and am confident that under his leadership, the nation will respond with the strength and determination that such a significant sacrifice warrants,” the Chief Minister stated.
He added that Tage Hailyang's legacy would endure, with his name forever memorialized in the history of Arunachal Pradesh as a symbol of courage, inspiring future generations.
Earlier on Thursday, Assam Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah received the body of IAF Corporal Tage Hailyang in Guwahati at the Air Force base. Senior officials from the Assam government and the IAF were also present to pay tribute to the deceased.
Hailyang's body was subsequently transported to Tajang village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Subansiri district.
Local MLA Hage Appa, Lower Subansiri District Deputy Commissioner Vivek H.P, Superintendent of Police Keni Bagra, along with senior government officials and civil society leaders, received the body at the Hapoli check gate on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister, accompanied by Minister Gabriel D Wangsu, MLA Nakap Nalo, Lok Sabha Member Tapir Gao, state BJP president Kaling Moyong, and numerous officials, along with thousands of residents, paid their last respects at Tajang village.
IAF Corporal Hailyang will be interred in his native Tajang village on Friday.
