Kolkata, Sep 23 (NationPress) A migrant worker, who had just returned to his hometown in the Alipurduar district of West Bengal, was tragically shot dead, according to police reports released on Tuesday.
The victim has been identified as Subhash Kujur, who previously worked as a migrant laborer in New Delhi.
Neighbors mentioned that he arrived in Alipurduar just two days prior to celebrate the Durga Puja festival.
On Monday night, while riding his motorcycle through a road that traverses the Buxa Tiger Reserve, Kujur was intercepted by a group of armed assailants who shot him and fled the scene.
Local villagers quickly rushed to his aid, transporting him to the Alipurduar District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel, as confirmed by the police.
The deceased's remains have been sent for a post-mortem examination, and local authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation.
Subhash's wife, Arati Kujur, informed the police that a longstanding family feud regarding a land dispute likely motivated his murder.
"This family conflict over land has persisted since 2008, and a legal battle is currently ongoing. We suspect our adversaries in this legal matter may have orchestrated my husband’s killing. I demand justice," Arati Kujur expressed.
According to Alipurduar SP Y. Raghuvamshi, the investigation is underway.
A police official noted that the manner in which Subhash was initially captured and shot at close range, specifically to the head, suggests that professional hitmen may have been employed for the assassination.
As of now, there have been no arrests made in connection with this tragic incident.
