New Delhi, Sep 23 (NationPress) In a move aimed at boosting mechanisation in sanitation efforts, NDMC Chairman Keshav Chandra initiated the distribution of advanced sanitation equipment to substitute traditional hand-brooms across all 14 sanitation circles on Tuesday.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) also hosted a blood donation drive as part of ‘Sewa Pakhwada’, commemorating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
The sanitation equipment distributed by NDMC comprised 300 hand-held dustbins for each circle to facilitate source-level waste collection, 27 fully-equipped cleaning trolleys for mechanised market cleaning and wet mopping, 14 megaphones to bolster public awareness campaigns, and 300 waste collection bags per circle designed for systematic street waste management, as per an official statement.
Emphasizing the importance of this initiative, Chandra stated, “Sanitation workers will now be armed with modern trolleys filled with essential cleaning tools – from soap solutions to mops – thereby replacing the traditional hand-brooms.”
“This initiative aligns with the NDMC’s vision to merge innovation, mechanisation, and community engagement to create a cleaner and greener New Delhi,” he added.
The Public Health Department of the civic agency launched a specialized program titled ‘Empowering Palika Sahayaks with Equipment for Improving Efficiency and Mechanisation of Sanitation’ at Khan Market, under the ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa Pakhwada’, as revealed in a statement.
Chandra remarked that sanitation practices need to evolve continuously through innovation and experimentation to boost efficiency, motivate staff, and provide tangible benefits to both residents and visitors.
This initiative underlines NDMC’s steadfast commitment to sustainability and citizen-centric services while acknowledging the essential role of its Palika Sahayaks in preserving the city’s hygiene and aesthetics, according to the statement.
The plan reflects NDMC’s dedication to modernizing sanitation practices and ensuring top-notch cleanliness standards in the capital.
In a related event, NDMC Secretary Tariq Thomas inaugurated a blood donation camp at NDMC headquarters, Palika Kendra. This blood donation camp was organized by the NDMC's Welfare Department alongside the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS).
Another blood donation camp was held by the Blood Storage Centre under the Medical Services Department of NDMC in partnership with the IRCS at Charak Palika Hospital, Moti Bagh as part of Sewa Pakhwada.
The initiative, themed ‘Donate Blood, Save Lives’, received an enthusiastic response from employees and the public.
A total of 72 donors registered, and after screening, 47 blood bags were successfully collected during this camp at Charak Palika Hospital. Meanwhile, 21 blood units were donated by NDMC employees at Palika Kendra, according to the statement.
