A statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) revealed that during the opening ceremony of the conference, the Prime Minister commended the Indian armed forces for their success in Operation Sindoor and their crucial role in nation-building, anti-piracy efforts, the safe return of Indian citizens from conflict areas, and providing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief to allied nations.
“Aligning with 2025 as the 'Year of Reforms' in the defence sector, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Defence to implement actionable measures promptly to ensure enhanced jointness, atmanirbharta (self-reliance), and innovation to tackle future challenges and respond to any eventualities,” the PMO statement indicated.
The PMO also mentioned that Prime Minister Modi was briefed on the operational readiness of the armed forces considering the new normal established by Operation Sindoor and the future landscape of warfare influenced by emerging technologies and tactics.
“The Prime Minister also reviewed the reforms enacted over the past two years and the strategic plan for the upcoming two years,” the PMO statement added.
This conference, held every two years, serves as the highest-level brainstorming platform for the Indian armed forces, uniting the nation's top civilian and military leaders to share insights and establish a foundation for the future enhancement of India's military capabilities.
The theme for this year's conference is 'Year of Reforms - Transformation for the Future', reflecting the ongoing modernization and overhaul of the Armed Forces.
“Over the next two days, the conference will conduct a comprehensive review of various structural, administrative, and operational issues based on feedback from within the armed forces, assessing the preparedness of the armed forces amid rising global uncertainties, and deliberating on a roadmap to actualize the Prime Minister's vision,” the PMO statement noted.
Simultaneously, the Ministry of Defence has issued a statement asserting that the conference in Kolkata is dedicated to promoting transformative reforms throughout the Indian armed forces, addressing a wide array of strategic topics, including armed forces modernization, joint operations, integration, and improving operational readiness for multi-domain warfare.
