New Delhi, Dec 1 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Monday that the House should be free from any "drama" and should concentrate on policy-making instead of mere sloganeering.
Speaking to the press ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament, PM Modi remarked, "This Winter Session is not merely a ritual; it is an opportunity to invigorate our endeavors aimed at propelling the nation towards swift progress. India has embraced democracy and showcased its fervor and joy towards the democratic process that fortifies our faith in democracy."
He continued, stating that the global community is keenly observing India's democratic advancements, and the nation has demonstrated that "democracy can deliver".
Referring to the substantial voter turnout in the recent elections in Bihar, he said, "This is a testament to the strength of democracy. The rising contribution of women is also creating a wave of optimism and trust. The world is monitoring the resilience of our democratic and economic framework closely, and India has proven that democracy can deliver."
The Prime Minister highlighted, "The speed at which India's economic stature is achieving new heights not only reinforces our belief in the vision of Viksit Bharat but also empowers us to realize it."
In addressing the Opposition, PM Modi insisted, "This session must emphasize what Parliament is contemplating, aspiring to achieve, and its forthcoming actions for the country. The Opposition should also acknowledge its responsibilities and pose questions after overcoming their sorrow from defeat. Unfortunately, some political parties are struggling to accept their loss."
His comments come as the Opposition voices discontent over what they deem as the unilateral arrangement of a brief discussion. The previous monsoon session also faced low productivity due to protests regarding the Special Intensive Review (SIR) process in Bihar.
Reflecting on the Opposition's defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, PM Modi expressed, "I had hoped that some time would have changed perspectives since the Bihar elections concluded. However, their rhetoric indicates otherwise, suggesting their defeat continues to affect them."
The Prime Minister stressed that during the Winter Session, "the frustration of defeat should not overshadow our focus, nor should it morph into a sense of victory pride." He added, "As public representatives, we must advance the responsibilities and expectations of our citizens with equilibrium. This is a challenging task, yet it is essential."
He called for enhanced involvement from first-time MPs, stating, "Those newly elected or younger representatives find it disheartening as they struggle to present themselves as competent leaders, raise issues from their constituencies, and are often interrupted when advocating for the nation's progress. We should provide these new MPs with opportunities to voice their opinions."
Further targeting the Opposition, who have frequently engaged in ruckus and slogans in Parliament, PM Modi remarked, "There are numerous venues for theatrics; those wishing to engage in it are welcome to do so. However, the focus here must be on delivery and not drama. As for slogans, the entire nation is available; express them wherever you wish. But here, our emphasis should be on policy, not on slogans."
"While negativity may serve political interests, positive thinking is essential for nation-building. I hope you maintain negativity within bounds and concentrate on constructive efforts for the nation."
"In recent sessions, Parliament has been utilized for election warm-up activities or to showcase frustration over defeats. I've observed some ruling parties in certain states unable to visit those areas due to public discontent and anti-incumbency... These political entities must engage in reflection on this matter," he concluded.
The Prime Minister also congratulated Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan on his new appointment.
