New Delhi, Dec 1 (NationPress) On the inaugural day of the Winter Session, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge sharply admonished Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that he has yet again offered theatrics rather than tackling essential matters facing Parliament.
In his comments posted on X, Kharge stated: “On the first day of the Winter Session, the Prime Minister, @narendramodi, has once again delivered drama instead of addressing the core issues before Parliament.”
He went on to accuse the government of persistently undermining parliamentary standards and respect over the past 11 years.
“The truth is that the government has continually eroded parliamentary dignity and the democratic framework over the last 11 years, and there is an extensive record of such occurrences,” he mentioned.
Kharge asserted that during the previous Monsoon Session, at least 12 bills were passed hastily—with some taking less than 15 minutes and others without any debate whatsoever.
He highlighted that contentious legislation, such as the “anti-farmer black laws,” GST, and the Indian Civil Security Code, were rammed through Parliament.
He also criticized the Prime Minister for his silence on pressing issues.
“When the matter of Manipur was brought up in Parliament, you chose to remain silent until the Opposition initiated a no-confidence motion,” he remarked.
Kharge further claimed that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are overburdened and losing their lives due to the ongoing SIR process.
“BLOs are continually losing their lives due to the pressure of the SIR process,” he said.
He indicated that the Opposition aims to prioritize issues like the alleged “vote theft” and will persist in raising them in Parliament.
“The BJP should now cease the drama of diversion and engage in discussions on real public issues in Parliament. The reality is that the common citizen is battling unemployment, inflation, economic disparity, and the exploitation of the nation’s resources, while those in power are indulging in drama fueled by arrogance,” he added.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also targeted the Prime Minister on X, stating: “The PM rarely attends Parliament and undermines it. He seldom interacts with the Opposition. Yet, before each session, he stands outside Parliament, grandly addressing the nation, calling for constructive cooperation from the Opposition to ensure the smooth operation of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.”
“If Parliament does not function efficiently, the blame lies entirely with the PM and his obstinate refusal to permit the Opposition to raise urgent public concerns. He intends to control the narrative without allowing the Opposition to express its views. The PM’s pre-Parliament statements are nothing more than hypocrisy. The biggest dramabaaz of them all is the one talking about drama,” he concluded.
