Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, Jan 16 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, stated on Friday that prior to 2014, India boasted approximately 400 startups, whereas today, the count of recognized startups has surpassed 200,000, with nearly 50% originating from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
In an address to the media, Singh noted that there was a prevailing belief that startups could only be established in major urban areas, but the government led by Narendra Modi has effectively shifted that perception. “Currently, almost half of the startups in the nation are emerging from smaller cities, many of which are spearheaded by women,” he remarked.
He highlighted that the government has created a strong startup ecosystem through various initiatives, motivating the youth to look beyond traditional government jobs and pursue income-generating ventures with considerable growth potential.
During the event, a young entrepreneur from Udhampur shared his journey of launching a startup in the healthcare industry, focusing on heart health. “We introduced a health supplement at this event that aims to tackle nutritional deficiencies among individuals,” he said.
Additionally, a female student expressed that the program offered insightful guidance on initiating a startup. She mentioned her current project, which is an app designed to enhance rice varieties in the agricultural sector.
Earlier, while addressing a crowd at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital, celebrating a decade of the Startup India Mission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked, “Today, we commemorate the significant milestone of 10 years of Startup India. This decade-long journey is not merely the success of a government initiative; it embodies the aspirations of millions like yours.”
Commending the impact of young innovators, the Prime Minister stated, “I applaud all our young innovators who dared to pursue their dreams.”
Reflecting on the last ten years, PM Modi noted, “Consider the landscape a decade ago when opportunities for individual creativity and innovation were scarce. We challenged those circumstances, launched Startup India, and offered our youth a vast horizon. The outcomes are evident today. In just ten years, Startup India has sparked a revolution. India is now the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem.
