Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, 25 August chaired the 53rd PRAGATI meeting at Seva Teerth, New Delhi, reviewing six key infrastructure projects spanning the railway, road, and power sectors across nine states, with a combined outlay exceeding ₹30,000 crore. The high-level review underscored the Centre's push to accelerate stalled and ongoing projects with a sharper focus on end-to-end delivery.

Key Directives from the Prime Minister

Modi stressed that infrastructure delays carry consequences far beyond cost escalation — they defer economic benefits for citizens and businesses alike. He directed ministries and state governments to treat projects as integrated wholes rather than isolated packages or stretches, insisting that progress in individual components must ultimately translate into timely commissioning of the full project.

The Prime Minister called for a proactive work culture with greater ownership at every level of implementation, urging all stakeholders to identify and resolve critical gaps before they compound into systemic delays.

Integrated Infrastructure Planning

A notable directive from the meeting was Modi's call to explore common utility corridors for infrastructure services wherever technically and economically feasible. He asked ministries and states to evaluate such integrated approaches at the planning stage itself — a shift that could reduce duplication and land-acquisition friction across large transport projects.

The Prime Minister also emphasised that speed of execution must not come at the cost of quality, directing implementing agencies to adopt modern technologies and strengthen quality assurance at every stage of project delivery.

Digital Agriculture and AgriStack Review

The 53rd PRAGATI session also covered a review of AgriStack under the Digital Agriculture Mission. Modi urged officials to leverage the latest digital tools — including Artificial Intelligence — to extract greater value from agricultural data, signalling an intent to deepen the technology layer beneath farm-sector governance.

Cyber Fraud and Digital Arrest Cases

The meeting additionally took stock of rising cyber fraud cases, including incidents of so-called digital arrest — a fraud typology where victims are coerced into staying online under the threat of fake law-enforcement action. Modi directed that prevention efforts be strengthened through sustained training, awareness, and public education campaigns, placing the onus squarely on systemic preparedness rather than reactive policing.
