New Delhi, Sep 15 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is embarking on a significant visit to Bihar and West Bengal today, where he will unveil critical infrastructure and developmental projects aimed at bolstering India's military readiness, enhancing regional connectivity, and fostering economic progress.
Beginning his day in Kolkata, PM Modi inaugurated the 16th Combined Commanders’ Conference-2025 around 9:30 a.m. This three-day event, running from September 15 to 17, marks the highest-level assembly of India's Armed Forces alongside top civilian authorities.
The theme for this year, ‘Year of Reforms – Transforming for the Future’, highlights the government's commitment to long-term reforms and modernization of India's military capabilities.
Later, PM Modi will travel to Purnia, Bihar, to inaugurate the new Interim Terminal Building at Purnea Airport. This facility is anticipated to greatly improve regional air connectivity and passenger capacity in northeastern Bihar.
In a significant boost to local development, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation and inaugurate projects worth approximately Rs 36,000 crore. Notably, this includes Bihar’s largest private-sector investment – the 3x800 MW Thermal Power Project in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur, valued at Rs 25,000 crore. Utilizing ultra-super critical, low-emission technology, this project is expected to greatly enhance Bihar’s energy security.
Among other major initiatives, PM Modi will launch Phase 1 of the Kosi-Mechi Intra-State River Link Project, estimated at over Rs 2,680 crore. This project is set to improve irrigation, flood control, and agriculture in northeastern Bihar by increasing the canal’s discharge capacity and renovating critical infrastructure.
The Prime Minister will also introduce the National Makhana Board in Bihar, recognizing the state's leading role in makhana production, which accounts for nearly 90 percent of the national output. The board will aim to boost production, post-harvest management, technology adoption, value addition, marketing, and export promotion, putting Bihar’s makhana on an international platform.
Additionally, PM Modi will distribute Community Investment Funds worth Rs 500 crore to Cluster Level Federations under the DAY-NRLM scheme, empowering rural communities. Cheques will be symbolically presented to selected CLF presidents during the event.
Moreover, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stones for various railway projects and inaugurate new train services to enhance rail connectivity throughout Bihar.
